Many are times when we go struggling in the darkness of life without knowing what God wants with us. However, God wants us to follow His sure path and will therefore always give us a sign that will direct us to His will.
For instance, He gave John the Baptist a sign so that he would know Christ. When the sign came, John was able to recognize Jesus.
33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”
(John 1:33-34 NKJV)
It was a difficult task to know Jesus because, unlike John the Baptist, He wasn’t shouting His identity. John’s disciples had to cling to John for them to find the Messiah, and when they did, they became very excited and not only followed Him but also invited others to Jesus.
35 Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. 36 And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!”
37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
(John 1:35-37)
40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus.
(John 1:40-42)
45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, son of Joseph.”
(John 1:45 NKJV)
These disciples of Jesus were predestined to introduce Jesus to the world and we see them executing that calling immediately they recognize the messiah. It feels good when we are able to recognize the will of God upon our lives. This is the only way we can fulfill our calling in this life, which comprises the reason God created us. To achieve this, it requires a thorough search, waiting, listening, meditation, observation and seeking confirmation of what we establish.
11 He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.
(Matthew 13:11 NKJV)
God uses signs that He shows me in dreams or visions so that when I see them in situations that come into my life I get to understand what God is doing.
One instance that God gave me a sign is taking my son to a boarding school. There before, I disliked boarding school because of the experience I had in my first year of high school. I had schooled in a day primary school and therefore, when I joined a boarding high school, I suffered a lot of homesickness such that at one time, I had thoughts of jumping over the fence and going home, which fortunately I did not implement.
Consequently, I imprinted on my son that boarding school was bad, which he also believed. But then, one time we relocated to the city and I was doing my masters course. I thus enrolled my son in a day school but it turned out that my son experienced unhealthy pressure in that school until he complained every now and then against the school. I would try to encourage him to like the school to no avail.
One day, in a dream, God told me that I wasn’t paying attention to the woes of my son. I thus realized God wanted me to do something about it, though I didn’t know what. I thus prayed that God direct me on the solution. Sometime later, I saw in a dream, my son going back to the previous school he was in, and when he saw his former friends running and hugging him, he became so happy that he bid me farewell and ran happily with the friends into the classes.
This dream made me realize that my son would be comfortable in his former school, but could only board because it was now far from where we were staying. Moreover, though we had a tight bond, he would stop missing me upon seeing his friends. I thus thanked God, prayed for provision and my son gladly accepted to go back to the former school. He improved academically and had favor with the pupils, teachers and support staff. His life was finally filled with happiness.
In short, that experience and guidance by God made me change my mentality about boarding schools, and hence took my son towards the right direction.
I have described other similar situations in my consecutive articles which I invite you to read, and also challenge you to be keen and perceive the signs God brings to you; and when you follow them, you will be sure to live according to the will of God. God bless you.
